SCNU SW-Oriented University Project Group Hosts AI Experience Booth at the 2025 Multicultural Harmony Festival
- A community event promoting coexistence through hands-on AI activities with multicultural families
Sunchon National University (SCNU, President Lee Byung-Woon) announced that its SW-Oriented University Project Group participated in the 2025 Multicultural Harmony Festival held on Saturday, October 25, organized by Suncheon City and hosted by the Suncheon Family Center. During the festival, SCNU operated an AI Design Goods-Making Booth (Cup-Making Experience), allowing participants to explore creative uses of artificial intelligence in daily life.
The festival, a representative multicultural event of Suncheon City, brought together approximately 500 multicultural families and local residents. It aimed to foster a spirit of inclusion and unity among residents of diverse backgrounds through cultural exchange and shared experiences.
Programs included traditional performances from various countries, K-culture experience booths, career exploration activities, and athletic competitions. SCNU’s booth provided a unique opportunity for participants to edit images using AI technology and design their own custom cups. The activity allowed both children and parents to engage with AI in an accessible and enjoyable way.
A Vietnamese parent who attended with her elementary school?aged child shared, “It was amazing to create our own cup through an AI experience. My child was so proud of the cup they made.” A Filipino participant added, “It was my first time using AI, and it was easier and more fun than I expected. Learning together with my family made it even more meaningful.”
Professor Shim Choon-Bo, Director of the SW-Oriented University Project Group, stated, “This event provided a wonderful opportunity for our university to grow and evolve alongside the local community. We will continue to engage in collaborative programs that promote mutual development and expand the value of software education.”
The SW-Oriented University Project at SCNU is supported by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Institute for Information & Communications Technology Planning and Evaluation (IITP). In collaboration with Jeollanam-do Province, Suncheon, Gwangyang, Yeosu, and Goheung, the project operates a range of educational programs designed to spread software literacy and foster regional digital innovation.
