Sunchon National University (SCNU, President Lee Byung-Woon) announced that it successfully concluded the Joint Admission Fair for International Student Recruitment in Tuv Province and Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, held from October 23 to 24.
The event was jointly organized by SCNU and the Jeollanam-do Office of University Policy, with participation from Sunchon Jeil University, Chung-Ang University (Cheongam Campus), and Chonnam National University Yeosu Campus. The universities jointly promoted Jeonnam’s strong higher education infrastructure and comprehensive support systems for international students.
The first session in Tuv Province attracted about 150 Mongolian high school students and parents, while the Ulaanbaatar event drew more than 400 participants, reflecting strong local enthusiasm. Attendees showed great interest in each university’s specialized programs, scholarship systems, and language training opportunities. Mongolian high school teachers and education officials also attended, discussing potential future collaborations. The event gained widespread attention, being featured on TV9, one of Mongolia’s leading national broadcasters.
Professor Seo Kang-Seok, Dean of SCNU’s Office of International Education and Exchange, stated, “This fair represents a meaningful example of universities in the eastern Jeonnam region joining forces to expand into overseas education markets, moving beyond individual competition. Through continued collaboration, we aim to establish Jeonnam as a key hub for cultivating global talent in Asia.”
Kim Se-Yeon, Director of the Jeonnam Provincial Office of University Policy, added, “Mongolia has shown steady growth in demand for studying in Korea, making it a strategic location for international student recruitment. Through the Jeonnam RISE project and regional Global Talent Hub Centers, we will continue our efforts to attract outstanding international students.”
Moving forward, the eastern Jeonnam universities plan to continue their joint student recruitment initiatives following the success of the Mongolia fair. Under the Jeonnam RISE project’s Global Talent Hub Center, they will build a cooperative promotional network among regional universities, positioning Jeonnam as one of Korea’s leading global education hubs.
