- 전남인재평생교육진흥원과 손잡고 도내 청소년 23명 선발, 12주에 걸쳐 문학 전문교육 실시

국립순천대학교(총장 이병운)는 전남인재평생교육진흥원(원장 범희승)과 업무협약을 맺고, ‘2025 청소년 문학 아카데미(이하 문학 아카데미)’를 운영한다고 밝혔다.

문학 아카데미 사업은 도내에서 처음 시행되는 청소년 문학 교육프로그램으로 전남도는 노벨문학상 수상작가 한강을 배출한 지역으로서 지역 문학인재를 발굴하고 육성하기 위해 교육 과정을 마련했다. 도내 중고등학생 50명을 선발하여 순천대와 목포대에 각각 25명씩을 배정해 8월부터 12주간의 교육에 들어간다.

본격적인 교육에 앞서 국립순천대는 지난 7월 26일 문예창작학전공 강의실에서 선발학생과 학부모를 초청해 설명회를 개최했다.

본 아카데미는 시, 소설, 영상문학 3개 분야에 걸쳐 문예창작학전공 강사진과 현장 전문가 5명이 강의를 진행한다. 시 창작 장철문 교수, 김윤희 교수, 소설 창작은 전성태 교수, 영상문학 창작은 김영남 교수와 김혜미 영상예술 강사가 맡는다. 선발 청소년은 중학생 8명, 고등학생 15명이다. 이들에게는 문학교육 프로그램 외에도 초청 작가 특강, 문학기행, 작품집 발간 등의 프로그램이 제공된다.

문예창작학전공 전성태 학과장은 “작가를 꿈꾸고 문학을 좋아하는 전남지역 청소년들에게 문학교육의 갈증을 풀어주는 기회”라며 “학생들이 저마다 고유한 문학의 첫걸음을 떼도록 도울 것”이라고 전했다.

문학 아카데미에 선발된 신서현 학생(여수삼일중 3년)은 “어릴 적부터 문학에 흥미가 있었고, 소설 쓰는 게 취미인데 이번 문학 아카데미를 통해 부족한 실력을 향상하고 싶다”라고 밝혔다. 최준혁 학생(순천매산고 3년)은“오래전부터 문학에 관심이 많았지만 이런 기회를 가지게 된 건 처음이다. 최대한 많은 걸 배우고 싶다”고 참여 소감을 전했다.

한편, 청소년 문학 아카데미는 8월 7일 집중교육에 들어가 11월 중순, 성과를 모은 작품집을 발간하며 교육과정을 마칠 예정이다.

Sunchon National University Launches Youth Literature Academy to Nurture Local Talent

Sunchon National University announced the launch of the 2025 Youth Literature Academy in collaboration with the Jeollanam-do Talent Lifelong Education Promotion Agency. This new initiative marks the first youth literature program of its kind in the province.

The academy aims to discover and cultivate future literary talent in the region, which has already produced internationally recognized writers. A total of 50 students were selected from across Jeollanam-do, with 25 assigned to Sunchon National University and the other 25 to Mokpo National University. The 12-week curriculum begins in August.

Ahead of the program, Sunchon National University hosted an orientation session on July 26 for selected students and their parents at the university’s Department of Creative Writing.

The academy offers specialized instruction in poetry, fiction, and screenwriting. Five instructors, including university faculty and field professionals, will lead the sessions. In addition to regular classes, the students will participate in guest lectures by established writers, literary field trips, and the publication of a student anthology.

The head of the creative writing department remarked, “This program provides a rare and valuable opportunity for literature-loving students in Jeollanam-do to pursue their passion with structured guidance. We hope each student finds their unique voice and takes their first meaningful steps into the world of literature.”

Students expressed excitement about the opportunity. A third-year middle school student from Yeosu said, “I’ve loved writing since I was young, especially fiction. I hope to grow as a writer through this academy.” A high school senior from Suncheon added, “I’ve always been interested in literature, but this is my first time joining a program like this. I want to absorb as much as I can.”

The Youth Literature Academy will run intensive classes starting August 7 and conclude in mid-November with the publication of a student literary collection.
